Research description:

Development of methods for the determination of trace toxic elements using ICP-OES which highly decreases the values of the detection limit and increases the possibility of selective determination of species. In order to avoid an interference in complex samples, loaded matrix are examined and features of different internal standard (yttrium, vanadium, cobalt, etc.) as well as the influence of organic solvents, methanol, ethanol and propanol on the intensities of different spectral lines (both ionic and atomic). Application of microwave digestion of food samples is performed in order to significantly accelerate classical sequential extraction procedures and determination of the mobility of toxic elements from the soil. Optimization of hydride ICP technique involves finding the optimal concentration borhidrid funds and the optimal concentration of hydrochloric acid, which allows simultaneous determination of both inorganic arsenic (As(III) and As(V)) and organically bound arsenic in food.

Application and development of various chromatographic and chemometrical techniques in determination of free amino acids, mono-, di-, oligo- and poly-saccharides, anions, and trace elements in different food matrices as a specific tracing fingerprints in establishing the food origin and authenticity is important part of research of RG6. Within this part of the project, a systematic study of authenticity, botanical and geographical origin of a large number of honey samples collected from various parts of Serbia was started. Application and development of different chromatographic methods for the determination of food additives is subject of investigations, too. In addition, a study of new, cheaper techniques based on thin-layer chromatography and the other chromatographic methods for the estimation of partitioning constants, such as soil-water, and air-water for the compounds of ecological importance, as well as brain-blood or skin to blood permeation constants for biologically active compounds is included in research of our group.
